Who We Are
In 1962, Dr. Jesus C. Veneracion, put up the very first medical facility in General Santos City, named after its patroness, Saint Elizabeth of Hungary. St. Elizabeth Hospital, Inc. (SEHI), as it was later called, was granted a license to operate as a Primary Hospital with 25-bed capacity.
In 1975, as SEHI evolved into a full-service facility that offered sophisticated and comprehensive medical care, it was eventually granted a license to operate as a tertiary hospital. Dr. Jesus C, Veneracion, as the Medical Director, was assisted by the management team of the Dominican Sisters of Sienna in running the hospital.
In 1989, Mr. Antonio Gimenez Veneracion took over the management of the hospital from the Dominican Sisters of Sienna, serving as the Hospital Administrator. Mr. Veneracion, who holds professional degrees in Business Management and Accountancy, steered the hospital through the challenges of the 1990s, helping it grow into a 180-bed full grown general tertiary level hospital. In 2010, when the Board of Directors approved the formation of the Corporate Planning Office, Mr. Veneracion assumed the position of Corporate Planning Officer and Quality Management Representative and turned the reins of the position of Hospital Administrator to Mr. Marcelino E. Dospueblos, a respected luminary in the field of hospital management.
One of the highlights that the hospital initiated in its service delivery capability was the putting up of a Quality Assurance program in 2000, aimed at focusing on the improvement of customer relations. This pioneering effort resulted to the hospital being recognized by regulatory agencies for centering on the needs of its customers. In 2009, the hospital was recognized by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation as a pilot center for its Benchbook program, which requires all hospitals to implement quality assurance activities as a requisite for accreditation. In 2010, the Philhealth awarded the hospital with its recognition as one of the best hospitals in delivering quality care to its customers.
During the same year, the hospital initiated its quest to become certified as an ISO accredited organization and last April 2012, it passed and was finally accredited as an ISO 9001:2008 certified hospital, the very first health care facility in the region to have been accorded this distinction.
A third floor has been added recently to the building having more rooms (Private Rooms, Junior Suite, Executive Suites, Deluxe and Presidential Suite), increasing its total bed capacity to 248. St. Elizabeth Hospital, Inc., is now a vast medical facility with vast capabilities, dealing with both in-patient and outpatient care, and has the relevant expertise and experience in the delivery of health care services to the constituents of General Santos City and its neighboring communities.
The hospital also was able to put up a Craniofacial Foundation. Following through on the vision of its Medical Director Dr. Jesus Veneracion, the foundation is now capable to provide free resources for medical and surgical care to the indigent children of Region XII with cleft lip and / or cleft palate issues.
The St. Elizabeth Craniofacial Foundation Inc., in cooperation with The Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation and Smile Train are dedicated in helping give children their smiles. The Foundation has a staff dedicated to the care of the children operated on and has established programs to monitor each child to maturity, providing surgery, on-going medical treatment, speech therapy, psychological help and family support.
