2 returning LSIs undergoing quarantine, found to be COVID-19 positive yesterday, are now confined at our dedicated COVID-19 Wing so they can be well taken cared of and isolated to prevent community infection. St. Elizabeth Hospital has been built, designed, and refined to handle both COVID and Non-COVID patients alike. Our peoples’ skills, both medical and non-medical, have been honed over the years to manage infectious diseases. We have even sent nurse volunteers to our COVID Center Hospital in Manila and all returned safe and sound after 2 months tour of duty directly handling COVID-19 patients. Our protocols and processes to handle this pandemic have been benchmarked and patterned after the best NCR Hospitals of the Metro Pacific Hospitals network, who have been battling this pandemic since the onset. We have been expecting the virus to arrive at our doorsteps anytime and we have been preparing for it.

Our GeneXpert Rapid PCR Testing Center is certainly proving its usefulness, in helping our health authorities from General Santos City and the Province of Sarangani manage the safe handling of their returning residents and incoming essential workers, by detecting COVID-19 patients in as early as one day compared to the previous experience of having to wait for more than 7 days for confirmatory test results. As General Santos City and the Province of Sarangani open up their respective communities to jump start the stalled economy, the St. Elizabeth COVID-19 Laboratory will be hard at work in immediately detecting the virus so that both public and private healthcare facilities are able to properly manage their patients.

We call on the public to continue practicing proper handwashing, wearing of masks, and safe distancing, and avoiding unnecessary travel to help contain the virus. We fight this virus together.
