Our Clinical Laboratory is a specialty that aims at giving clinicians the assurance that all investigations carried out are the best and results are given out in the shortest time possible. We offer a 24-hour service without extra charge for work outside normal office hours except for holidays.
The laboratory houses different sections each with a qualified medical technologist being supervised by the Chief Medical Technologist. The following are the various sections of our clinical laboratory with their respective services offered:
Hematology
We have a well-organized and stylish extraction lounge for receiving visitors and sampling patients, issuing specimen containers and receiving the specimens. The area is fully air-conditioned coupled with friendly and caring staff thus ensuring comfort and ease.
Clinical Microscopy
This section deals with the technical field of using microscopes to view samples & objects that cannot be seen with the naked eye. This includes urinalysis, stool exam pregnancy test, semen analysis and cell count for other body fluids.
Hematology
This section deals with tests for blood disorders such as anemia, leukemia, sickle cell disease and parasitic infections in the blood. Hematology also includes blood grouping and screening for hepatitis, HIV, malaria and also deals with all aspects of blood transfusion. Contains machines for full blood count, staining sections and well-organized microscopes for examinations.
Serology
This contains all the reagents or test kits for most of the serological investigations and orbital shaker for rocking other tests which requires rotations.
Clinical Chemistry
This section deals with chemical analysis of blood and other body fluids. This includes assessing kidney function tests, liver function tests, lipid profile, blood sugar electrolytes, and amylases among others.
Histopathology
This section refers to the microscopic examination of tissue in order to study the manifestations of disease. This includes pap smear, biopsy, Peripheral Blood Smear & Frozen section.
Bacteriology
This section deals with the study of bacteria and related aspects. This includes Culture and Sensitivity tests.
Drug Testing Center
Opened last July 27, 2011, the SEHI Drug Testing Center offers in-patient and out-patient collection services. Most commonly, drug testing is used as a requirement for pre-employment, licensing for LTO, carrying firearms, and others.
Urinalysis is the most common test type and used by government mandated drug testing programs and is considered the gold standard of drug testing, thus there is a strict protocol on the collection of the specimen.
Since the facility is accredited by the Department of Health and the Bureau of Health Facilities and Services, each patient is assured that the results are reliable and tamper-proof.
Microbiology
This section analyses various body fluids for bacteria or parasitic infections such as Tuberculosis and Typhoid. Techniques in this section also help to determine which drugs will help cure the infections observed.
Culture and susceptibility tests for various microorganisms from a wide variety of clinical samples including aerobic & anaerobic bacterial culture, fungal culture
A wide range of serological tests
A wide range of antigen detection tests providing rapid diagnostic solutions such as bacterial antigen in CSF
Semen analysis techniques
Stool concentration techniques help to identify some parasites such as E. histoliytica etc.
In this section we also have Bio-safety cabinet for processing sputum and oxygen incubator for culture.
Staffing
The laboratory has well trained staffs from the level of lab assistance to lab technicians.
